SkyBridge Token Standard

Overview​

Our token standard defines how tokens behave when they move between networks. It's built on Optimism's framework but adds important improvements for flexibility and user protection.

How It Works​

Exact Copies​

When a token moves to Base, it creates an exact copy that maintains the original name, symbol, decimals, and value ratio. This copy functions independently from the original token while preserving most of its core features. Every token maintains a strict 1-to-1 peg with its original version, backed up by Optimism fault proofs, ensuring consistent value across supported networks.

Advanced Features​

Unlike other bridge solutions, our standard supports every existing token on Ethereum without requiring any special setup. We've built in upgradeability from the start, allowing the system to evolve with future improvements. Key features include:

Universal Support​

Our standard works seamlessly with any token on Ethereum, requiring no special setup or intervention from token creators. Whether you're working with regular tokens or NFTs, the system handles deployment automatically through the bridge interface—users can easily bridge any of their assets to use with their favorite Layer-2 applications.

Decentralized Protection​

SkyBridge implements robust safety features to protect users and communities. Because SkyBridge tokens are decentralized, centralized admin functions on Ethereum—like pausing or blacklisting—do not affect functionality on Base. This protection extends to community-led initiatives, allowing trading to continue even if the original project faces issues.

Easy Deployment​

Token deployment to Base is straightforward and permissionless:

  • Fixed cost of 0.005 ETH
  • No special permissions needed
  • Automatic setup through the bridge
  • No technical knowledge required

Technical Details​

Token Implementation​

Our implementation builds upon Optimism's mintable token interface, enhanced with an upgradeable factory design, and is fully compatible with the Optimism standard bridge. This approach preserves token identity across networks while enabling future improvements and multi-bridge functionality.

Important Distinction

Unlike Optimism's token standard which limits tokens to one bridge, SkyBridge tokens allow for future multi-bridge support and feature additions through our upgradeable design. This is managed through DAO governance for security.

Liquidity Support​

The standard integrates with Supersonic fast withdrawals and will soon support liquidity providing. The system includes:

  • Seven-day unlock period for liquidity providers
  • Fee collection for liquidity pool growth
  • Integration with fast withdrawal systems
  • Future yield opportunities

Important Considerations​

Bridge Compatibility​

While our tokens aren't directly compatible with Optimism's standard bridge, they can be traded 1:1 with other bridge versions. Users can transfer tokens from other bridges to access our enhanced features.

Special Token Types

Fee-on-transfer and tax tokens work differently on Base:

  • Transfer fees and rebases do not apply across chains
  • Buy/sell taxes do not incur when trading on Base
  • This may lead to accounting errors with fee-on-transfer tokens
  • Take extra care with large transfers of these tokens

These limitations are due to technical constraints of cross-chain communication.
